Testing for WeeSandy.

Had to go down a hook size to get the right gauge. I used a 4mm g hook for the body.

Row 4- my stitch count is 39 stitches. Subsequent rows are coming out ok.

Ok, I am obsessing way too much about the stitch counts. After several more rows I finally get that the chain spaces count as the number of stitches that will be crocheted over them on the next row. This makes the stitch count for each row useless to me as a tool to check my progress at the end of each row. It would be more helpful to me if it said “x stitches and y chain spaces” and if note #4 was clarified a little.

Once that was figured out the rest of the body went very smoothly.

The only other non-intuitive part was the foundation row for the edging. I put eight (and occasionally one extra) sc stitches in each of the little ridge sections that form the sides of the shawl. With some counting and a calculator it didn’t take too long.

I used a 5mm h hook for the edging up until I got to the picot stitches. Each time I made them, I switched back to the smaller hook so that they wouldn’t look sloppy.

I like the resulting shawl, and it could easily be adapted to a larger size. I typically prefer charted patterns, but this one is well written, easy to follow, and doesn’t leave me longing for a chart.

Used 160 grams/504yds of this yarn.

Unblocked measurements: 18” x 76”

Blocked measurements: 22” x 80”

I used steam blocking for this acrylic yarn. The edging is holding its shape! :)
