I used an i-cord cast on for 58 stitches and divided the stitches as follows:

First 3 sts garter
next four C4F
(RS) purl 1 OR (WS) knit 1
17 stitches plaited basket weave
(RS) purl 1 OR (WS) knit 1
(RS) knit 2 OR (WS) purl 2
reverse stockinette for 6 stitches
(RS) knit 2 OR (WS) purl 2,
(RS) purl 1 OR (WS) knit 1,
17 stitches plaited basket weave,
(RS) purl 1 OR (WS) knit 1,
C4B,
garter stitch 3 stitches.

I used an i-cord bind off and crocheted loops for button loops with slip stitches in between each loop so I wouldn’t have lots of ends to weave in.
