Doing the bottom edge at the 41” size and decreasing 4 sts every 2” up to the 8” mark (top of pocket). The rest of the sweater will be great at the 38” size.
I love what this looks like in the magazine. And I think it’s going to be a fun knit. I love what Cascade 220 feels like in my hands…. So squishy!
8/5 - I’m on vacation and I’m feeling guilty at how much time I’m knitting on this sweater, but I just can’t get enough! The pattern is very well-written and the design is interesting - kind of like knitting a sampler.
8/6 - I bought a second size 3 circ and I’m knitting the sleeves two-at-a-time in the round.
8/17 - finished sleeves last night. Normally I hate “setting/easing in” sleeves (fitting a round sleeve hole to a round sleeve end - I prefer to set them in “flat” and then sew up the side seam) but I figured I should do it as instructed so that the elbow patches will look cute. All my measurements are right, so hopefully it will go in without too much trouble.
8/21 - started the hood last night. Got about 5 rows in and realized I’d picked up stitches for the wrong size. Ripped out and redid…. And the second time my pickups were neater :-).
I did the three-needle bind-off with the wrong sides together, as instructed, so that the seam is on the outside. It looks tidy, but I hope I don’t regret that. Even my Cast-on, Bind-off book did mention that TNB can sometimes be done with the seam on right side as a “decorative” element. Hmmm…
8/24 - knitted and sewed this most of the day. All done but for seaming the wrists, sewing on the buttons, and blocking. FITS PERFECTLY! Easing the arms into the armholes WAS as much of a pain as I was expecting, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to press out that join so it looks a bit neater, but it’s fine. Pictures soon!
8/27 - want to put this on for pics, but it’s 80 degrees out (that’s hot for Maine :-). And it deserves a wee bit of blocking first.
DONE!!! Love this sweater!!!
4/29/16 UPDATE: I’ve worn this sweater SO MUCH. On two continents. Many joyful hours in this sweater! I’m a little disappointed at how much this yarn has pilled, though. I’m going to “shave” it with a sweater stone, but I’m a teensy bit disappointed in that regard. That said, the sweater is wicked durable (yes, I’m a Mainah) and holding its shape beautifully.
