Notes

I jumped down both crochet and quilting rabbit holes in 2020. This turned into quite the UFO until this spring, when I determined myself to crochet these all together. Looks a lot like a quilt with narrow sashing between the squares. Inside of sitting alone and sad in a box, they’re now living their best life! The day after I finished it, we had an AMAZING, once in MY lifetime view of the Northern Lights. I sat out and marveled at the show, wrapped up and cozy in this afghan.

All the squares were made from free patterns that are or were available via Ravelry (most, if not all, are posted as individual projects on my profile). Many are by Polly Plum: https://www.ravelry.com/designers/polly-plum These are SO FUN to make.

It’s all acrylic. Before you come for me, it wears like iron, and frankly, it reminds me of my grandmother who made crocheted afghans for everyone. Most of the yarn came from thrift stores. Like a scrappy quilt, you can tuck a lot of “uglies” in and they somehow look great. The one downside is that different brands of “worsted weight” acrylic have different gauges. Caron Simply Soft is quite a lot different than Red Heart. Just meant I had to “square them up” at the end by working either more or less rounds.
