I had spun the Into the Whirled Odds & Ends specifically for a scarf for me. Spun it before I even got my loom, while waiting to get my tax refund to pay for it!
LOVE the way it looks. The bands of colors are gorgeous. It looks amazing.
I did 10 epi with a fingering yarn. I wanted it to be more weft facing that an even pattern. I think it really helps the colors to pop. And the black works as a neutral.
I was going to use some beautiful yarn from The First Draft. But I think it would have gotten lost. So I think I will save that for another project.
With all the colors, it just begged to be called the Amazing Technicolor scarf! grin Also found the movie on YouTube. So a good section of the weaving was done to that.
I really love how quickly weaving goes. The longest part is warping the loom. Or maybe it just feels that way… laugh
I should have made is less wide. I love wide scarves. But I fear it may be too short. If so, I may end up making it into a long cowl. I will see when I take it off the loom.
I am also debating about adding other handspun yarns to get it to be longer. I have some ItW that I spun. But I prepped the fiber differently. So the color repeats aren’t as long. But it might still work as there are patches in it where there is a single throw of a color. I also have some leftover Loop Bullseye Bump. But that may run the other way & be too long of color repeats. But again, there are sections with 6-12 throws of a color. I figure I will play with them on the loom to see…
Afterthoughts
In hindsight, I think if I had it an inch more narrow, I could have gotten more length out of it. I like it. But I do like longer scarves. So that is a bit disappointing.
I used some ItW Irohamomiji handspun & some leftover Loop Bullseye Bump to get some extra length which helped. But still feel like it would do well with some more length as I like to twist my scarves to keep them from falling off.
Also, I need to remember when using the hair tool to twist the fringe that the two threads go into one hook. That is how they twist together. I can’t find the YouTube video that suggested using it as a tool. But it works like a charm if I use the tool correctly!
Did one whole side of twisted fringe by hand because I kept trying to hook each thread into separate hooks which amounted to a tangle mess. It worked, but more often than not got over twisted & odd.
I am still debating adding additional fringe with the crochet hook method. Because the warp was fingering, the twisted fringe looks kinda scraggly with the body of the handspun warp.
