My mom knitted me a smaller baby blanket for my first child and I loved it. I could toss it over the car seat or the stroller without it dragging on the ground. I wanted this one to be a similar size. I started making a smaller version of the Saltcoats blanket but I didn’t like how it turned out.

I used the newborn size of the pattern. I wasn’t worried about gauge and this turned out a smaller than the pattern - I also wanted a more square shape than rectangle.

I added a ruffle border using a smaller hook (sc all around & then 2 dc in each sc). In one corner, I also included a 4 petal flower around two of the corner dc.

I really like how this turned out! The yarn is the same as these projects - my camera doesn’t do well showing the true color; I love the color:
