I used the Thrum Lovin’ mittens pattern for color inspiration.
I used the German Twisted Cast On.
I knit the rib for 3” instead of 4” because I was worried about running out of yarn since I was using leftover yarn from another project.
My row gauge was larger than the pattern’s so the thumb gusset is 3.5” long instead of 3” long.
I knit the hand 7” long instead of 6.5” long. I started the top decreases when the mittens measured 8.5” long and the hand measured 5.5” long (40 rnds).
I picked up 2 extra sts for the thumb then decreased down to 18 sts on the next rnd.
I started the thumb decreases at 2” (15 rnds) instead of 2.5”.
For the thrums I wrapped the working yarn around the needle first and then folded the roving over the needle so that the roving was to the left of the yarn.
I didn’t fold the roving double and instead used it single ply.
I used a package of multicolored wool roving from Hobby Lobby. I used 4 colors. I used 0.28 oz/8g of yellow, 0.31 oz/9g of pink, 0.28 oz/8g of blue, and 0.25oz/7g of orange.
If I were to make these mittens again I would work another round even before increasing for the thumb gusset.
-rib for 22 rnds - 3” long
-work increase rnd and 25 thumb rnds - 26 rnds, 6.5” long, 3.5” hand length
-put thumb stitches on hold, work 13 rnds even - 40 rnds, 8.5” long, 5.5” hand length
-work 12 rnds top shaping - 52 rnds, 10” long, 7” hand length
The yarn was a gift/destash from my grandmother-in-law.
