First Try

I hate to do it, but after knitting 48”, I’m starting over. There’s a few problems that I want to correct.

  1. I don’t like the way the yarn is carried up the side. (In the “First Try” photo, see the bottom right corner.) I’m not thrilled with how it looks, but mostly, I’m afraid it will get snagged and mess up the scarf. I know myself and I’m not very careful with clothing, so I try to consider yarns and pattern details that might be easily messed up.
  2. At the 101 stitch width, the scarf is 9” wide and I want to make it a bit wider. I should have paid more attention to the pattern information before I cast on, but I always have problems understanding size.
  3. I put this down for a month and then picked it back up, which introduced some inconsistencies in my knitting.
  4. I’m not IN LOVE with the color combo, so I’ll switch one Freia ball for another. I think I’d prefer greater color contrast.

Choices/Mods

  1. Cast on 137 (136+1)
  2. Slip first stitch knitwise every row. (That’s on the front and the back.)
  3. When knitting the first three sts in the opposite color, carry both colors, so it’s woven in.

Keeping Track of Stitch Pattern

Although every row is K2, P2, it’s easy to get out of sync if you’re not paying attention. Corresponding to the photo of my handwritten note, this is how you ensure stitches are placed correctly:

Increase rows (rows ending in Kbfb)

  1. Knit into pearl below
  2. Knit into knit below
  3. Pearl into knit below
  4. Pearl into pearl below

Decrease rows (rows ending in K3tog)

  1. Knit into knit below
  2. Knit into pearl below
  3. Pearl into pearl below
  4. Pearl into knit below
