My sweet cousin Leigh Ella saw a recent instagram post about these herringbone hats I’ve made. She quickly texted me - her new adorable heir Charlotte Grace must have one. I was inspired not only by the Olympic Wool concept (Imperial providing the yarn for the Team USA Olympic sweaters) but the 2014 color of the year “radiant orchid”. River Colors has a whole radiant orchid section with themed projects centered around shrouding ourselves in pops of this versatile, is-it-pink-or-is-it-purple? hue. I paired it with some wintry gray and the crazy Flora to add pops of confetti and fun for this new young lady who is no longer a newborn but still too young to pull a cute cap off her head. Young Charlotte lives with her parents in Florida, but I’m sure she’ll find cause to wear a warmer hat in the next few months from time to time.

I love the concept of working with this yarn, but it breaks so easily - making it challenging for when I was trying to sew up the seam or tie on the pom pom. All strands held double and the Flora was woven in with the Muench Bergamo.
