Pattern Notes

This is a play on my effort to create chunky infinity scarves as my sister requested a few years ago for Christmas (we dubbed it the “on-trend infinity scarf”). I had fun putting together a few scarves for our family friend’s (Kate McKenny’s) daughters. Erin recently reached out to see if I would be interested in donating a similar item as her much loved scarf to the Gigi’s Playhouse auction for her local chapter (Hillsborough, NJ); of course! I had fun picking out the yarns. I tried to stay more neutral to keep it accessible to more bidders at the auction, but bring in some cozy spring (or January hues!) with the ice-blue imperial yarn.

There are some symbols in this particular scarf.
I used three bands of color optics to represent the three chromosomes present in Downs Syndrome. Creme & brown ribbon for some flair, white with sequins and a bit of green and burgundy for the middle to add some pizazz, and ice-blue imperial yarn for the final band. Imperial yarn is so special; it is grown on the Imperial Sheep at Imperial Ranch in Oregon, the same sheep that produced all the wool for the Ralph Lauren Olympic Sweaters at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Including this yarn, this scarf is proudly made in the USA and in fact handknit in Cleveland, once the largest producer of machine-knitted garments in the world.

I hope it falls into the hands of an owner who will wear it with pride on chilly days and enjoy the versatility it can add between a soft shirt and warm jacket.

Pattern:
Cast on 67 stiches on 19 circulars
Join to knit in the round; knit 4 ridges with the above Katya and Cannoli
Knit 4 ridges in combined Queensland, Painted Sky, and Calista
Continue final 4 ridges in Painted Sky, Calista, and Imperial Anna. Bind off and weave in all ends.
