6/27:

Switched up from knitting the front and back panel as two pieces. Knitting them in columns instead that I’ll seam together.

BACK:

Column one (left-most column):

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 2: Switch to black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 3: Switch to white. Knit one row and purl one row. Knit until 3 sts remain, SSK, K1. Purl next row. Repeat these last two rows until 23 stitches remain. Knit remaining rows to reach a total of 42 rows knit.

Square 4: Switch to black. Knit 42 rows in stockinette.

Column two:

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 2: Switch to white. Knit 42 rows

Square 3: Switch to black. Knit 42 rows.

Square 4: Switch to white. Knit 32 rows. Then bind off 4 stitches on the knit rows and purl on the purl rows until 16 sts remain -- this will take 10 rows, ending this square with a total of 42 rows knit

Column three:*

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 2: Switch to black. Knit 42 rows

Square 3: Switch to white. Knit 42 rows

Square 4: Switch to black. Knit 32 rows. Then knit 1 row and bind off 4 stitches at start of purl row. Repeat these two rows of knitting on the knit rows and binding off 4 stitches at the start of the purl rows until 16 sts remain -- this will take 10 rows, ending this square with a total of 42 rows knit

Column four:

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 2: Switch to white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 3: Switch to black. Knit one row and purl one row. Knit 1, K2TOG. Purl next row. Repeat these last two rows until 23 stitches remain. Knit remaining rows to reach a total of 42 rows knit.

Square 4: Switch to white. Knit 42 rows in stockinette.

FRONT

Column 1 (right most column):

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 2: Switch to black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows.

Square 3: Switch to white. Knit one row and purl one row. Knit until 3 sts remain, SSK, K1. Purl next row. Repeat these last two rows until 23 stitches remain. Knit remaining rows to reach a total of 42 rows knit.

Square 4: Switch to black. Knit 42 rows in stockinette.

Column 2:

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 2: Switch to white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 3: Switch to black. Knit 1 row and purl 1 row. Decreasing repeat begins below:

1 - Knit 1 row
2 - Purl 1 row
3 - K1, K2TOG k to end
4 - Purl 1 row

Repeat these 4 rows until you have knit a total of 42 rows (counting the first 2 rows before the decreasing repeat). You’ll have 24 stitches left

Square 4: Switch to white. Knit decreasing repeat above until you have 40 rows completed and 14 stitches left on the needles. Knit rows 1-2 a final time and bind off

Column 3:

Square 1: Cast on 34 stitches in white. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 2: Switch to black. Knit stockinette for 42 rows

Square 3: Switch to white. Knit 1 row and purl 1 row. Decreasing repeat begins below:

1 - Knit 1 row
2 - Purl 1 row
3 - Knit to last 3 sts, SSK, K1
4 - Purl 1 row

Repeat these 4 rows until you have knit a total of 42 rows (counting the first 2 rows before the decreasing repeat). You’ll have 24 stitches left
