Incorporated carolyni’s pattern notes into the original pattern and knit this for a newborn-size (casting on 68 stitches and using dpns because I didn’t have circulars in US 5).

I knit until I had 4” then started on the decreases with K15, K2tog around, then knit one round, then decreased again with K6, K2tog around. Knit round again and in between each decrease round. Threaded off top when I had 8 stitches left.

I knit the ears with 11 stitches instead of the 12 carolyni instructed.

I was confused about knitting the ears “counterclockwise” until I realized I knit in the round that way anyways Hah. I should have taken a pictures of what it looked like while I normally knit to help anyone else who was/is confused by that. It’s really very easy and if you’re still a rookie knitter you might already knit in the round like that on accident.
