Notes

This was the first project of our small private group called Worthy Knitters.

Because we had arranged a holiday together in the Lake District in February 2010, we decided to get busy then.

We like the idea of Erika Knight which combined simple squares with striped squares (to use up left over wool!)

In the centre of the plaid we included some squares with motifs relevant to the occasion: Dolly the dog, Simon’s yacht, a huge tree, a pike (which Dave didn’t actually catch) and an origami fish which Nick created on the spot. I’ll upload free patterns for these motifs soon.

The finishing touch to the plaid was the border, in garter stitch and Latvian plait, which framed the whole thing beautifully.

We celebrated our first birthday on 9 November, and the project was completed just in time! My thanks to all Worthy Knitters who put in time and enthusiasm for the project. The plaid is now in the home of Linda, our Worthiest Knitter: she says “It’s a real heirloom!”

We are very proud of our communal efforts!
