Notes
  • This is my third, and perhaps final Steingass sweater for awhile; the first one I’ve knit for someone other than myself.
  • had the recipient try the yoke on and thankfully, appears to be on target, as other patterns I’ve knit by this designer, yoke depth has typically been far too long, no matter if I have correct gauge or not
  • the fabric is just barely ok for my taste using US 5 for the body - the Kelbourne Perennial is indeed very light and the first few rows of my color work I was over cautious with sliding stitches and it is a little on the loose side, steamed out though. If I knit these two fingering weight yarns again, I’d prefer the fabric obtained at US 4, a little more dense.
  • as it stands, recipient wanted a lightweight pullover and this is definitely going to apply
  • the color combo was by the recipient and it is SPECTACULAR - the Neon Coral is just perfect against the subtle cream color of the Ultra Wool Fine. Really looks great in this motif (of which recipient wanted arrows in her sweater - so this pattern was a win win)
  • I’m currently done with the yoke and I have separated for the sleeves. I steamed the yoke in order to have recipient try it on and I was very pleased
  • Also happy with my color work - I did NOT size up in needles (US 5 for yoke), I felt like I have done enough color work at this point in these top down yoke sweaters that I have my tension and stranded knitting in a very good, neutral, well-defined space.
  • Looking at the reverse of this pattern is also very pleasing - there were a lot of floats to catch - but I feel like it might have been worth it just to look at the wrong side.

On to the Hemline
Recipient came to try it on yesterday and we’ve decided to take back 15 rows and start the ribbing (15 rows) and it will be the perfect length for her. Then it will just be sleeves and finishing. It fit her perfect at the chest/shoulders/armscye - I was very pleased and relieved at that.

Undecided on color work for cuffs, maybe I’ll do a duplicate stitch/embroidery of one set of arrows on them. The neon coral is just absolutely fantastic here. She loves it, I love it.

All Done

  • I decided to do an arrow on the sleeves, accomplished this through embroidery - the duplicate stitch
  • Stretchy bind off on sleeves, boy do I love that bind off, so fast and easy and looks nice
  • Berroco Ultra Fine was an affordable option for this sweater and I believe it will be an easy enough care garment for recipient.
  • In contrast, knitting with it wasn’t perfect, it would split here and there, it’s certainly not luxurious feeling (which is wouldn’t be anyway), and I’m not even sure if I liked how it steamed out, just not as refined as I had wanted it to look. But I’m really nit picking - it worked fine, it’s $84 instead $120-140 for something finer.
  • Speaking of, I bought six skeins, used 4 and 3/4 of the white, so just nearly five skeins total vs six I did the math for. Have a ton of the perennial sock left, which I plan to make some nice socks with.
  • Will take pics of recipient wearing it this fall. I think she will love it.
