Make For FatSquirrel kal - must make sure I pick a yarn that has enough yardage. Must weigh, measure, and figure out wpi for the miscellaneous NH yarns.
Decided on Naturally Caron Spa - machine washable, slight sheen, just trying to figure out gauge right now. Gauge on 10.5 worked out to 4 stitches per inch, unblocked but stretched a tiny bit. It’s acrylic, so blocking isn’t really a factor, right?
4/25/12 - started second repeat of main chart, took photo of Harry modeling shawl. a few more rows and it would be perfectly cat-sized!
4/28/12 - finished second repeat of chart
5/1/12 - finished third repeat
5/13/12 - finished fourth repeat. At this point in the pattern I’m supposed to do the lace edging, which is rows 1-10 of the repeat. It’s just that the shawl isn’t nearly big enough yet. Exactly as I thought it would be, so I’m doing two more repeats. Each repeat seems to add 4 inches of length, so that ought to be enough.
5/28/12 - I’m halfway through the sixth repeat and the top edge measures 53” across, the spine measures about 28” long. I think six repeats might be enough, then I’ll do the border. I need to make sure I finish within the kal time frame!
5/31/12 - finished 6th repeat. Time to do the edging - but do I do edging as written in the pattern, or do I modify to add more lace?
k2,transfer the 2 stitches back to the left needle and k2tog through back loops, k1, and repeat between the s across. It says that this cast-off should be knit loosely enough that edge stitches naturally scallop (I assume before blocking.) (found at http://www.knittersreview.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=94647)
Used size 11 needles to bind off using the above method.
40 grams of yarn left, definitely not enough for another full pattern repeat. I don’t need another anyway, the shawl is just the right size.
This yarn isn’t splitty but but it does snag terribly. I’ve got two big snags already, and I can’t seem to work them back in to the fabric of the shawl.
