I picked this sweater for my daughter because it looked stunning on the picture from the magazine. It turned out to be a difficult and frustrating project.
First, I followed directions and knit the body in the round. With 248 sts in a row with intricate cables it took me a while to get to the armholes.
The math for the armholes in my chosen size didn’t work so I had to improvise (I hate doing this mid-work).
I also had to figure out myself how to place the cables on the back and front in a way that they would look well. The pattern says: “During shaping, if there are not enough stitches to work a complete 4- or 6-stitch cable, work the remaining stitches as they appear”. If I followed this recommendation for my size, I wouldn’t get a nice and neat cable placement.
After the armhole fiasco, I decided to play it safe and not to pick up stitches for the sleeves around the armholes and not to work the sleeves in the round. I also thought that the purl side for sleeves would look better together with the body design.
Here is how I made sleeves for size 40”:
Pick up 47 sts Rib 3x2 for 16 rows
Make one increase in the last row - 48 sts.
Increase on both sides 5 times in every 10th row,
3 times in every 12th row - 64 sts total.
After 96 rows start decreases -
Decrease 4 sts on both sides,
All other decreases I did in the knit row - they look almost invisible on the purl side.
3 times 2 sts on both sides in every other row,
5 times 1 st on both sides in every other row,
2 times 1 st on both sides in every 4th row,
1 time 1 st on both sides in every other row,
2 times 2 sts on both sides in every other row,
1 times 3 sts on both sides in every other row,
CO all the remaining sts.
I like how these sleeves fit and it took me almost no time to make them.
Hoping that my daughter likes it as well.
