Notes

DBNY had a good price on this yarn and I wanted to try it to see how well I liked it before buying more, so I used one of my favorite patterns.

The verdict on the yarn: eh. Very soft, I thought it had kind of an acrylic feel to it in the ball, but lost it when worked up. At this point, I’m not enamored. I did like it a bit more the longer I worked with it, though.

I wanted to use up the entire 6 skeins, so I extended the meshwork to 11 sets of passovers, then added two rows of eyelets identical to earlier in the shawl. I then knit about a 2” section of Dot or Spot Stitch (see Sand Stitch in Barbara Walker’s Treasury of Knitting Patterns), which is basically moss stitch with the wrong side rows purled. That section was followed by one set of eyelets, then the ruffled edging. On the right side rows, as best I recall, using M1s I increased every second stitch, then every third stitch, and every third stitch again. On a wrong side row, I bound off using Jeny’s stretchy bindoff method (check YouTube), trying to use a k1 p1 method, though I don’t know whether that really made any difference over a k1 bindoff.
I had probably 20-30 yards left. I was fortunate that there were only a few knots in the balls (unusually lucky, from what I gather) so I had very little waste.
