We modified this gorgeous shawl-poncho hybrid (pronounced “vee-ya-HON-tae”--pretty extensively in order to use the lovely Super Sweet Sock from Sweet Fiber in Langley instead of the suggested lace weight. Our changes were as follows:

• We used slightly larger needles (3.5mm and 4mm instead of 3mm and 3.5mm)
• On page two of the pattern in the “Body” section, we repeated rounds 2 and 3 until the piece measured 24’“ (142 stitches) and then proceeded to the “Mesh Lace Part.”

Our sample used every last bit of two skeins, so if your gauge is different from ours--20 stitches and 30 rows equals 4” blocked--you may end up using more yarn and will thus need to knit the “Body” section to a smaller measurement (such as 23”). You will also notice that the mesh pattern will not be as deep as in the original, but you can adjust the depth by using up any yarn that you may have left at the end.
