All solid, no color changes this time.
NOTE: Color changes would have made joining a million times easier since if the color changes happened on the appropriate row. As it was, there was TONS of counting. Next time? Color changes for sure.
4mm crochet hook to slst the finger edge.
5mm crochet hook to sc around the wrist edge.
CAST ON:
Leave 8” tail for seaming (after slstg).
CAST OFF:
Leave extra long tail (~20 wraps around cc) for crocheting and seaming.
SEAMS:
From finger side / top: measure 2” down from top
THUMBHOLE:
From finger side / top: measure 3.5” down from top
WHILE ON THE MACHINE? Maybe mark the rows for the thumb hole opening while on the machine --
1) where the thumb hole starts. (Row 11)
2) where the thumb hole ends. (Row 17)

I have 6 pairs cranked, but I can’t seem to get started on the assembly portion. I just can’t decide on the way to finish each end. I could do like the others and sc around the finger portion and then graft around the bottom, but I had considered maybe doing hdc or dc on the cast off end to make it more interesting and maybe longer and stretchier.
I just feel like I need to make a decision before I start so that I can make them all the same way. I’ll need to see if the hdc/dc on the cast off edge is as stretchy as the grafting is.
10/15/24 UPDATE
I decided to slst the top closed the usual way and then 2 rounds of sc or hdc to bind off around the wrist. It seems pretty stretchy that way, but honestly I don’t know if it’s faster than grafting. Still, I think it adds some interest, so I’m going to stick with it.
As of today, I still only have those first 6 cranked and mostly all ends closed. Mattress stitching is taking a long time because of how to count the rows and measure every one. Going forward I may figure how to mark the rows while they’re still on the machine.

Asked an expert what she’d charge for these, and she said between $20-$25/pair. I feel better about charging my mom $15/pair, which I initially thought was too much to ask. After making some start to finish, I realize I should have maybe said they would cost more and given her the option to not get them from me. I’m probably just overthinking everything at this point which is making them taking even longer. Maybe they’ll go faster when I do the other FIFTEEN pairs.
10/30/24 Update
I cranked 3 more pairs before work.
I have a system for finishing more efficiently now. I mark all first and last stitches plus the 23rd and 24th stitches on the cast off and cast on edges with bobby pins (my new favorite stitch marker).
I’m also using bobby bins to mark the lines for mattress stitching. Super helpful. Plus I’ve been able to more easily identify the lines just by studying the pieces.
On the last 6, before starting the mattress stitching, I join the first and last stitches on both the cast on and cast off edges.
Hints/Tips:
- the line of stitches from the top to bottom are upside down V’s, so conversely they are V’s from the bottom to the top.
- from top to bottom/cast on edge, the line to use for mattress stitching is actually between stitches #23 and #24 and between the #1 and #46.
- from bottom to top, those same lines are actually on stitches #23 and #46.
- While still on the machine, mark stitches 23 (pin 26 for me) and 24 (pin 27) on the cast on edge (to the left of the pin under the red middle thing) and cast off edges (directly under the pins, so between the red things).
I only have 5 more to crank unless I decide to redo Bev’s since they were the first and they don’t look great.

I needed to re-crank one from yesterday, and got another pair cranked this morning. All the ones that had been cranked up to that point have been worked to the point of mattress stitching.
11/6/24
This morning I was able to get all QMC tags and the printables attached on all finished gloves.
Still need to: crank three more pink pairs (Tammy, Sherry, and a redo of one of the ones I already did, but I don’t love the color or the feel of the yarn).
11/27/24 All done and shipped. Received on 12/2/24.
