Using a smaller hook and doing YUYO to make the stitches tighter. I might regret that decision because of how hard I have to work to get into the stitches, but hopefully I’ll be happy with the results.
Since this is for Beth and she prefers white wine, I checked with Melissa and Joyce about which yarn to use, and they both suggested cream. This CSBI Dark Ivory seems just yellow-y enough.
And … as if I needed another reminder about how slowly I crochet -- when will I learn?! Another Raveler, sberg10, mentioned she finished the project in LESS THAN an hour. It has taken me WAY longer than that to just get to the top of the stem of the wine glass!
In a comment on the blog, Stacy (on February 19, 2021) mentioned that she cut out a round piece from plastic to put in the bottom then another to put in the top. It did add some time for me to go looking for what I could use. I ended up using yogurt lids -- for the bottom, I traced around a prescription bottle cap. Not sure what size I’ll need for the top yet.
I also added 3 q-tips into the stem per Kathy’s comment on the blog on September 8, 2022.
Worked on it for about another hour at work after I got all caught up. I was able to get to the round of white with the decreases in the FLO. I don’t have safety eyes with me, so I’m not going to work anymore right now.
UPDATE:
Able to finish it after work with Brookie’s input on the eyes. I’m so proud of them! Usually, I don’t feel confident enough to do anything more to them than just stick the eye in, but I lived on the edge, and I love these!
My stem ended up only being 6 sts instead of 7. Must’ve missed one somewhere, but it looked fine, so I kept it as is.
The stem was 3” tall at R24, so I skipped R25 and R26.
Because I only had 6 sts in the stem, the increases didn’t work as written, so I had to jig with them a little bit.
I skipped R39 for the wine portion.
