Have moved on to other projects & decided to pick it up & call it finished, I removed the corners rounds because and it is now a lapghan. 30” across
Be Advised:
This project is round after round after round after round of blo sc. The overlay crochet is created by working fp stitches around previous stitches below the current round and by working into front loops.
I don’t recommend this as a first time over-lay project, not only is the pattern an involved project but you need to really stay on top of things as you go back & forth between the original patterns as written and the modifications for Baby Henry.
Pattern is confusing at first, while it uses standard US English crochet terms it is not written in standard format which takes some getting used to.
DO NOT GIVE UP!! Design is worth the extra work!
As you stitch successive rounds it does become easier to see where stitches go.
Tips:
- Use Stitch markers
- Count stitches
- Weave in ends as you go BUT do not weave ends of last row until you have completed the next subsequent row in case you need to go back to fix previous row
- Write down color used for each round, will make it easier to reference stitch placement for next rounds
Inspiration for colors:
the colors from our 2018 Great Lakes “girls’ tour”.
Please note: when choosing colors NOT all colors used will actually show from front side but it does help to differentiate on successive rows for stitch placement.
Planning on using Caron Simply Soft since I have quite a bit of it in the cupboard.
Caron Simply Soft colors; may swap some out as work progresses.
Bone, Charcoal Heather, Grey Heather, Pistachio, Dark Sage, Soft Blue, Lt. Country Blue, Country Blue, Dark Country Blue, Ocean, White, Robin’s Egg* disc color & only one skein may have to switch this and Loops & Threads Joy DK in Latte, RHSS Coffee
I am starting all my rounds with a standing sc rather than a ch, I find it easier for making the invisible join
Week 1:
took quite a bit of frogging till I “got” the rhythm of the pattern designer’s writing. It is not a style I am used to & found it confusing.
Measures: 6” diameter
Week 2:
Have gotten into rhythm of pattern & finding it easier to know where to place stitches. With the darker colors I am using I am only working on this in daylight so I can better see stitch placement & joining, esp on sc rounds.
Measures: 14.5” diameter
Week 3:
Much faster going as it is easier to see where fp stitches are to go.
as I was close to finishing round 35 I noticed for some reason I was missing a sc in between the fptrs so I just added an ‘inc’to make stitch count correct.
Once I got to the same spot in round 36 I realized the reason I was missing the sc was because I had missed making a fptr back in round 33! That of course threw my stitch counts off for rounds 34 & 35. There was NO WAY I was frogging back all that so I fudged in the stitch. To get the height needed I made a dtr instead for the tr in round 36. looks fine to fine - see photos.
Completed the remaining rounds per pattern.
Measures: 18.25” diameter
Week 4:
This week we switch over to Dedri Uys part of the pattern from Sophie’s Universe, love, love,LOVE Dedri’s designs.
Much easier , slow down was because i am playing around & switching out colors fro what I originally was thinking.
Measures: 21.75” across
Week 5:
easiest week so far! Just 5 rows of blo sc around the outside to finish the squaring up.
Measures: 23” across
Week 6:
Pretty straight forward except a little tricky on the placement for the dtr going into the corners. Fun seeing how the diamond border appears as I stitch each round.
Measures: 31” across
Week 7:
Quick section. Much easier than I expected it to be…but oh lordy, all those ends to weave in…
