Kelly (1hundredprojects) came to stay with me and take advantage of being able to work remotely…hence the project name.
I’ve been collecting worsted weight spirit yarn to make another garter squish afghan for my brother. He had seen an afghan at Close Knit in Portland, Oregon that he loved. I thought I could replicate that pattern by dyeing the yarn. Turns out we remembered the afghan very differently! :-) I decided to make this one and get the correct yarn to make the afghan he really wants…(Noro mania blanket).
Kelly and I sorted the yarn into yarn that had been commercially dyed in two shades of camel (light and dark). These we overdyed in a terra cotta gradient for a total of 2,100 yards to be the main color.
The undyed yarn we separate into two batches to be used for the contrasting color. The first batch we painted with dye in short 1-3 inch sections. The second batch we dyed by dipping 1/2 of skein in dye pot, and then the second half in another dye pot to get about 30” color sections. I have 1,500 yards so will have to get some more spirit yarn to dye.
Broke each skein into two cakes. Ordered them 1 to 12 and each 1//2 and 2/2
