I had so much fun making these socks! Okay, it’s humor only a knitter or a crocheter would understand, since I mixed
crochet that looks like knitting (hdc in the third loop, https://www.mooglyblog.com/third-loop-half-double-crochet/ ) and knitting that looks like crochet (horizontal braid or vikkel-braid, https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=279&lang=se ).
Well, a single row of hdc in the third loop still looks like crochet.
Cuff: Slalom stitch. Or “drunken rib”.

It’s an easy pattern to follow and adapt, and yes, the socks can be worn with shoes. Boots, at least.
Modifications:
The difference in gauge between knitting and crochet is quite dramatic, so a couple of rows before the crocheted heel I increased the number of stitches from 64 to 72, and decreased them while crocheting, back to 64. Repeated the increase-decrease later, when switching from crochet to knit and back.
Raised the heel a bit in the gusset area, by crocheting hdc in the heel stitches, sc on top of the foot for several rows.
The yarn is reclaimed from a second-hand cardigan.
