This thing got really huge on me really fast due to the bigger needle size, and of course the bigger yarn. Because of that, when I started getting to the outer blocks, I started binding off much sooner than the pattern intended.

Block 8: Stopped at 30 garter rows
Block 9: Stopped at 18 garter rows

Even with cutting down with my rows on the outer blocks, the blanket is going to be rather large. I can see in future projects limiting the amount of garter ridges by 6 for each block (with the same size needle and the worsted yarn).

There was a few helpful links that got me through this blanket:

Yarn Harlot: Pick Up Lines. All throughout the blanket, I was slipping the first stitch purl-wise to insure ease of picking up the right amount of stitches. This blog helps tremendously on how to pick up the stitches to make sure the front side of the blanket looks as clean as possible!

Garter Intarsia tutorial! I have no experience doing intarsia, much alone doing intarsia when you’re not doing it on stockinette. This helped me learn how to make the front side look good once again. :P

I do forsee more of these blankets in my future. Seriously though, I have two more people in my life who are having babies in the coming months and this is a really great looking project and I don’t mind the endless garter stitch. It’s worth it for the final product!

For the border, I did a simple slip stitch around the edges with my crochet hook. (Size H or 5.00 mm)
