I bought the rainbow gradient on a whim from Heather and Michael in March. I had no idea that it would be the last time I would ever see Heather.
I made a few false starts on lacier shawls over the summer for Amber, before I had the idea for this one. The main colour purple was a 150g skein of Galaxy that was languishing in a long neglected WIP. One quick unravel later and it became this shawl.
I followed the Jokulsarlon pattern as directed until the chevron section. The chevrons are in stocking stitch. The pattern directs six miniskeins, but I had seven, so I had to make some modifications. The first four chevrons are 18 rows each, the next two are 16 rows, and the final chevron is only 15 rows, for which I had to change colours on the right side not the wrong side. I did agonise about that.
When I returned to the main colour I added another stocking stitch chevron before returning to the garter main body pattern.
As some rows contain a triple increase the edge is gently undulated. I took care to block gently to avoid distorting the edge.
It is huge!
I found this easy enough to knit at the pub, but interesting enough to keep me motivated.
I hope that Amber likes it. I chose the combination of purple and rainbows especially for her. I’m delighted to have used Heather’s special yarn on a special project for a special person.
