Autumn Woods Shawl knit in Quince and Co Finch. My first attempt at a shawl, and I truly loved knitting it. I knit through house renovations, selling, and packing……. and finished in time for our move north to the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands.
I wanted to knit a shawl that would be big enough to wrap around me on winter afternoons, when I often sit and sew and get a little chilly prior to the heating coming on!
The colour mix was inspired by Quince and Co.’s Undulation scarf. I added Clay later to increase the size of the shawl.
I had imagined a more even split for the depth of each colour mix, gradually decreasing bands of colour from the top down - it didn’t quite work that way! Possibly some better maths planning would have helped!
It isn’t without mistakes, including one whole row knit in the wrong stitch which I, rather strangely, didn’t notice for several more rows. But it is a utility shawl, for home use and abuse so I really don’t mind……..I’m on the look-out now for my next shawl pattern!
