My first attempt at toe up socks! Trying all sorts of things with these guys:
- TAAT (Two at a time)
- JMCO (Judy’s Magic Cast On)
- Jogless stripes in the round
- FKLH (Fish Kiss Lips Heel)
- JSSBO (Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off)
Mods
- CO 24 (12 on each needle), TAAT
- Toe: Increase 4 sts every other round til 32 stitches (64)
- Heel: FKLH, knit first row in contrasting colour and last row of the heel went back one extra time purling to retrieve the body colour (resulted in a small gap where the heel is tiny bit too long, need to research more about contrasting heel colours!).
6 May: In conclusion, TAAT with stripes makes for very very tangled knitting! Stripes look amazing, the jogless technique works surprisingly well but my tension is a little off at the magic loop joins. Slow going…
8 May: Tangle from hell… got overly confident and the blue became such a mess I had to cut it!!!! Sock goes about 4/10’s up my foot now, keep on knitting.
10 May: Holy heels batman! Onto the cuff now, all sorts of tension issues while doing the heels mostly because of the three colours I was bouncing around. Still not entirely sure I’ve done it correctly, but it fits if a little loosely. Think I’ll need to go down to 2mm for future knits but maybe I can get it to shrink in the wash?
14 May: This wool just won’t end!! I’m pretty happy with the length of them, and with the ribbing at the end they’ll be pretty much perfect. Unsure if I should just knit til I run out of wool or cull it now…
18 May: Well, I never ran out of wool and just ended up calling it! Finished with JSSBO and was very happy with the results, makes me wish I’d done the same for my sweater. An hr of of weaving in ends and I’m done! The tension is a little tense, next step is to block them to get it a little more even but they’re perfectly wearable!
Conclusion, love making toe up socks, be more conservative about the length, watch my tension during the heel and never do TAAT with stripes again!
