Nearest & dearest on another clinical drug trial, so lots of time waiting around at hospital. Some weeks we’re there for up to 4 days. Lots of poppying time. These ones are to be given by 5000 poppies to the RSL for their poppy appeal 2018 (100 years from the end of WW1).
Using the same patterns (and some I haven’t tried before) all available on the 5000 Poppies page.
Some are modified for size to be lapel poppies and a pin will be added when I’m finished.

Resumed poppying after a break for some other projects. Trying a new pattern from 5000 poppies. Not sure that I have it right as the centre keeps turning out “off centre”. Found some gold buttons from my late mother-in-law’s stash. Cover the centre! That sort of fixes it. The problem is using the black yarn at night. Can’t see what I’m doing well enough. I’ll have to order some brooch backs soon and get the current batch handed in. 5000 poppies is starting to worry if they will make the promised quantity by April next year. My current tally to date is 39. Not many at all compared to some folk

After a bit of a break while catching up with some other projects I’ve got back into poppy production. The newest red yarn I’m using makes the others look a bit dull in comparison. Never mind. Maybe it will be too bright for some and they’ll prefer the other colours of red. I think the tally so far is 48.

I had a go at making “Ing’s 5 petal dropped post crochet poppy”. No written pattern available for this yet. Only a video. Had to work it out with a bit of trial and error as my internet is so s-l-o-o-w. I think I got it. Not difficult at all once you work it out. Quite pretty too. Buttons at half price from a local op-shop which is about to close (sad!). Also a good opportunity to use up the last of the maroon yarn.
Included in this project are some poppies (32) for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. This display requires 62,000 stem poppies. The group is likely to have more than enough poppies after some publicity campaigns so I’ve said I’m happy for these poppies to be used in any way possible.
3 of these poppies are in memory of units in which family members served. The green and yellow colour patch of the 9th Light Horse, The red and white colour patch of the 40th Battalion AIF and the “found button” used on a poppy in memory or the RAAF and it’s predecessor the Australian Flying Corps.
Final tally for the lapel poppies with pin attached: 70

The poppies to be put on stems for the display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra were also sold in bunches of 5 (in aid of Legacy) once the display was over after 11th November 2018.
