I want a lightweight jumper in bold colour-block stripes so I can be visible on my trike. For those warmer days when my bright pink shower jacket is too much, but not quite t-shirt only weather.
My gauge is very slightly off so I’m knitting a medium. On the finished sizes given I fall between small and medium.
Hoping this will be a quick knit and a good fit.
I have an idea about the colour placement but it might change as I go.

I decided against the roll hem as in cotton I think it will bag out too much. I experimented with broken rib. I liked the look, but decided that 1x1 rib would be a better choice for to keep the bottom from stretching out. It doesn’t pull the bottom in too much when sticking to the pattern’s smaller needle choice.
I think the sleeves may be slightly long, but that’s better than too short. The last decrease row for size M was right on the length given, minus cuff rib.
When I finish the 2nd sleeve I’ll try the jumper on to see if I like the length of the body. The joy of top down knitting. I can undo the rib and knit a bit longer if required. I didn’t want to make it too long in case everything dropped after washing.

Finished the 2nd sleeve. Couldn’t resist trying it on. Happy with the body length. Sleeves are OK too. I noticed that they are tighter than expected. That may ease out with wash and wear. Quite wearable though. I noticed last night that my tension is tighter on the sleeves as I knitted them on dpns, not circulars as I did with the body. Guess who forgot to do a tension square to check? Not going back now. The body shaping is good. I notice slight excess under the arms before the shaping. Might settle in.
Now for the neckline.

Decided to reknit the sleeves. It wasn’t a change of gauge. I had picked up the wrong size needles and managed to finish both sleeves before I noticed the problem. I thought I was all finished except weaving in the ends. Oh well!

So it’s washed and dry. Tried it on. Nice. Maybe I should have made it a little bit longer. Seems wider than before too. See how it goes. It might drop slightly. If it annoys me too much I still have enough pink left over. The joy of top down, in the round is that I can add more to the bottom easily enough.

So the body length finally annoyed me enough. I undid back to the row before the rib started and knit in stocking stitch until the end of the round where the yarn ended and I joined more yarn. Then I did 12 rounds of rib and cast off. I do wish I’d kept better notes while knitting the jumper. I had recorded 4mm needles as the ones I used for the rib, but don’t think I fid for the sleeves. Maybe not the bottom either. Looks more like I used 3.75mm. Oh well, if that annoys me enough I can reknit at some stage
Happier with the new length. Covers most t-shirts now.
