My mother-in-law had to use a wheeled walker. The medication she needed made her hands very tender. The rubber grip in the walker handles chaffed her hands. The medical staff suggested covering the handles with some lamb’s wool. I had another idea.
Knitted tubular handle covers. They had to be a snug fit so that they would slip on, but not twist around on the handles. With a little trial and error I got something to work.
At least when she went to the hospital for appointments it was easy to find her walker. I made some in Christmas colours too.
the pattern
Cast on 28 stitches on a set of 4mm needles. Join into a circle (being careful not to twist) and work 36 rows in K2, P2 rib.
For stripes, work 4 rows rib, change yarn working one row K only, then next 3 rows work K2 P2 rib (aligning K and P stitches with previous rows). Change yarn back to first colour and repeat until 36 rows are completed.
Cast off in rib. Neaten in ends of yarn.
