In 1974, 4 years after this pattern was published, I lived with my Grandma in Moonee Ponds, (Victoria, Australia) while I studied patternmaking and garment construction at Melbourne College of Textiles. I was 15, then 16 that year.
Grandma pulled out this load of crocheted squares and the extra wool and pattern and said she’d do it for my bed. Perhaps she did some, I don’t remember… but when I turned around 30-ish she gave me the bag, as is, as was.
I’ve always crocheted, but never actually followed a pattern, nor worked a Granny Square, so it’s sat at the bottom of a box for another 20+ years.
NOW, I’m going to do it. I am. No, I AM!
The raggedy pattern is still here and I found it on Ravelry, linked from The Australian Women’s Weekly via Trove.
Gawd Bless ‘Em.
I have 30 finished, 5 half done and tons of wool. But may add another pink, so avoid my own boredom and add myself into the mix. It’s for my Writing Shed, to inspire cosiness and therefore frequenting.
It’s not built yet but I’m planning the décor.
