The embroidered smocking looked awful on the back at my first attempt, so I pulled it out and wove the floats (on the back) through the bumps of the purl stitches to hide them. It very pretty.
My yarn is likely finer than the pattern suggests, so it’s definitely newborn size. I’ll do another on larger needles I think, for the next baby or for Olive too.
I soaked it in warm water, with wool wash, for 15 minutes, rinsed then blocked it around an scrunched yo tea cosy. The bloom is amazing! Soooo soft.

Little Olive has entered the world and obviously needs a pretty bonnet or two. This one is adorable and a quick knit, which is good, because her little cousin is due in a few days too…
The yarn is Perino, a silk/merino/cashmere/possum blend and very soft. It’s not available on the general market and I got it through a warehouse relocation chuck-out. Soooo soft! (Held double).
Sometimes you can it at the Yarn Barn in Melbourne Australia: https://www.yarnbarn.com.au/shop
