I have been doing this project since 2011 with my church (Hollywood United Methodist) Youth Group. I am making & collecting hand knit/crochet/sewn monsters to donate to Hope Gardens Family Center (homeless shelter for women & children escaping abuse). Each child at the shelter will receive a handmade monster as a gift for the holidays. (Approx 70-100 monsters needed)
The project was very successful in past years, the kids love receiving the monsters.
Link to previous years projects.
If you could help out by knitting, crocheting or sewing a monster & have it to me by November 24, 2018, they will be delivered to the kids in mid Dec.
UPDATE: Any monsters received after Dec 1 will go to next years “Monsters For…” project.
Monsters should be kid friendly. They can be almost any type of yarn (please no mohair or angora) or fabric as long as they are soft enough to snuggle with at bedtime without being scratchy or itchy. No buttons or other attachments that might pose a choking hazard to small children. (Safety eyes are OK for the older children.) Monsters should also be machine washable, as a well loved monster will get a bit dirty & need many baths.
I have designed two knitted monsters. You can download the pattern for free: Otto and Pockets & Baby.
A great pattern for sewn monsters is McCall’s Crafts M5826
