Drew picked this yarn out at Rhinebeck… knitting him a vest with it. (He loves it!!)
Knitting in the round.
CO 4 less stitches than directed since these would have been used to seem the sides together (1 Stitch each side front/back) CO 200 for the smallest size.
Size 5 needles for the ribbing
Size 6 for the body
Knit for 15 inches then divided for the front/back sections
First part of arm hole shaping: bind off 5 at beginning of next 2 rows (instead of 6) to get to the 70 Stitch count.
Will leave the back neck stitches live… less stitches to pick up this way.
I didn’t bind off for the shoulder shaping. Left 9 stitches live on the needles & used Kitchener Stitch to join the shoulders together for a seamless vest.
Neck ribbing as directed except 36 of the back neck stitches were live so I only had to pick up 1 on either side of these to get the required 38.
Arm bands… since I knit in body the round I could also knit these in the round. Picked up 112 stitches for this. They are a bit large… next time I could go with 100 stitches instead.
Yarn: the vendor assured me that all 5 skeins were from the same dye batch & I would not have to alternate skeins. As I’m knitting… I am finding that this is not the case… arrrgggg. Two of the skeins are vastly different than the other three. You can see the very definded band in the photos. I should have alternated the skeins as I knit, but I’m too far into the project now. So I’m gonna call it colour blocked. In the end I only used 3.5 skeins.
