After reading this month’s challenge and struggling with the news about what just happened in Nice, my mind went to Tin Can Knits: two women creating patterns together across an ocean, bonded by love and respect. It shows, and their patterns are special to me in that I can create something lovely that fits every member of my family. It feels small but profound to be able to link us together through a handmade garment no matter where life’s journey takes us. I’ll be making this cardigan for my brother next month, the same cardigan I made for my son last month.

Chest: 42”
Arm to wrist: 22.5”
Underarm to hip: 18”
Shoulder to hip: 23.5”
Neck: 18”
Neck to shoulder: 6”
Armhole: 21”

sive 3’s for body, size 5’s for sleeves to maintain gauge

08-18-2016

Stopped sleeve dec at 23 moss pattern sts instead of at 20 sts. Cuff 32 rows long (to make up for a weird fitting that had us thinking we could stop the regular sleeve pattern earlier than I should have) and long tail tubular bind off.

08-19-2016

845 g used up after body and sleeves finished.

Button band: PU 134 sts to first marker, 61 to neck

did 18 short rows total, every other stitch and a 3” button band

09-13-2017

Adding 12 short rows per side (24 total) to shawl collar. I stopped a bit short on the collar when I knit it originally which was a terrible mistake! Cut a stitch near the base of the collar, unraveled a row, threw the top row stitches on a long needle, picked up the bottom row stitches and added the depth. When it’s deep enough (24 short rows should do it), I’ll kitchener the top and bottom row back together.
