The hardest part for me in any project is deciding on colors. I tend to ‘borrow’ ideas from others’ projects. Ordered a slew of colors from JST.
After much dithering I’m going to go with wine/royal/gold/forest/peacock/wine. with undyed/natural stripes and weft. And possibly do at least one towel with a dark contrasting weft, maybe navy?
9/25/17: Warp wound, 6 chains with cinch ties every 2 yards. Took me parts of 4 days to do it, my eyes kept crossing.
9/27/17 beamed. The navy blue chain is longer than the rest by about 4 inches (of 13 yards). But the natural I wound with it is not, so my thought is it stretched more. And the natural stretched less in all the chains. Hmm. ETA 10/27: The RH wine section was too loose, weighted the whole thing with 2 carabiners loaded with nuts & bolts.
9/29/17 heddles threaded. Note to self: count available heddles even if you think you have plenty -- I ran out of usable heddles on shaft 8 (there were enough on the other side, just didn’t count and move them). Moved the necessary heddles and all is well.
9/30/17 sleyed and lashed onto cloth beam.
10/1/17 started weaving. I wove PW for the hem and am quite unhappy with the width of it. I’ll finish the other end of the first towel in PW but will do twill full length on the rest. Another lesson learned. In the reed 20 2/3” x 35” (some a bit longer)
Ordered 16/2 yarn for the hems and continuing with the PW hems. It’s not so belled-out. But now I’m not happy with the fact that there are about a dozen spots that are not true PW, thankfully I saw someone else’s project pointing this out or it would have made me crazy. So each hem will look like it’s got errors…
10/27/17 Off the loom! 12 full sized towels plus the end 10 inches or so (used lilac for the weft on that) Off the loom 34” x 18” +/-.
First towel hem is 8/2 PW, next 3 towels 16/2 PW, balance in pattern.
10/30/17 zigzag and cutting.
So many weft float errors to fix! Note to self: work harder to maintain even tension when warping. Turquoise section (and the wine section next to it) was too loose.
Washed first, then hemmed. 3 color catchers in first wash, 2 in second wash.
Finished size (washed twice, hemmed, pressed) 28” x 17.5” +/-
