4.18.13 - Trying out this pattern with only one strand of yarn (as opposed to holding it double as the pattern states.) Didn’t really like the bulkiness of the doubled yarn. Currently using same needle sizes. It’s smaller, maybe 14” circumference. Going to finish this first one and do a second (and maybe even a third) casting on extra stitches.
I joined to work in the round to avoid seaming. Works fine just make sure you change any knits or purls when doing garter and stockinette.
For the smallest hat, I did the pattern exactly as stated with the same needle sizes except I did not hold the yarn double. It fits between a 13”-14” head circumference.
The medium hat was done with the same needle size and yarn held single but I cast on 49 stitches. I also added an extra two rows of garter (one knit and one purl) at the band to make a little more length. Between rows 10 and 11 I added these rows: row 1: K6, k2tog, repeat to last stitch, K1 Measures 14”-15” circumference.
The large size, which is the one I’m happiest with, was also done with the same needles sizes and yarn held single and a total of 8 garter stitch rows at the band. Then between rows 10-11 I did 8 extra rows as follows:
row 1: K7, k2tog, repeat to last stitch, K1
rows2-4: K
row 5: K6, K2tog, repeat to last stitch, K1
rows 6-9: K
Then you can continue on row 11 and onward as stated in pattern It measures close to 15”-16” circumference.
(Joining in this group challenge here to make twelve hats in one year.)
