I found the directions for attaching the flap a bit confusing, but than again I am 1) a beginning knitter and 2) don’t do very well with written instructions. So with that said, I did it my way. (Said in my best Sid Vicious impersonation.)

I rounded out the bottom of the flap with a few decreases.

I also found the recommended yardage to be significantly short for the 5 size. The added stripe in the back was planned, but the stripes in the front were not. I had to add them in to make up for the shortage in yardage. It looks ok, but the seaming would have been less obvious if I had not had to add the striped panels in. Oh well.

All in all, my 5 year old is happy that I made him a sweater from yarn that he picked out, and he won’t critique my work.
