Notes

Inspired by Minna’s fabulous fleamarket find…

http://blomsterverkstad.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/virka-varl...

I’ve used Jan Eaton’s square target block as a base…
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/square-target
but I chained 6 at the start and I’m chaining 5 stitches on the corners on rounds 2, 3, 4 & 5 to make the openings larger.

I’m using mostly Cascade yarns though the pink I bought (8834 medium rose) isn’t the shade I was hoping for (too dull) so I’m using some ancient yarn from my stash which I think is Rowan but not sure while I hunt around for the perfect dusty pink.

Am also using stashed yarns - leftover magpie aran yarns from a jumper knitted 20 odd years ago and some willow by texere (alpaca/wool mix) that I bought around 3 years ago for bunny knitting. I don’t know shade colours as they came without ball bands.

My aim is to have the centre of each square as a colour (alternating between warm orange/pink and cool blue/green) surrounded by a mix of beiges and greys and bordered by a dark heathered grey.

Haven’t yet thought about how big this will be - we’ll see how it grows.

18th November 2012, Finished!
Did 9 x 12 squares surrounded by 2 rows of single crochet, 1 row of double crochet (with a chain 2 above the meeting of 2 squares so as to leave a hole carrying on the openwork), 1 row of single crochet and topped off with a picot edge.
