Notes

This was an intense but fun project! I can’t say enough good things about Kate Davies and her patterns. She provides my personal happy medium of just enough detail in the instructions, so that you know what you’re doing but not slogging through pages and pages of photo tutorials and text.

I didn’t catch my floats on the really long parts, since I knew I was going to line it with a fabric backing. If you do, be sure to stagger where you catch so you don’t end up with a distracting pucker in the middle of your ewe.

I also omitted the second half of the outer edging - the part that would fold over and be tacked down. I did an i-cord bind off at that point, and then sewed my fabric to the underside of the i-cord.

I totally improvised the backing. I cut a piece a little larger than the blanket - didn’t even measure, just laid it out. Then, tucked under about a half an inch of the fabric, all the way around, and pinned it to the i-cord bind off. I stitched it by hand as invisibly as possible. This fabric was SO SOFT! And I have a whole bunch left over that I could see lining a hat or mittens.

PSA: If you love Kate’s rams and ewes please consider actually purchasing the pattern and supporting her as an independent designer, rather than charting it out from photographs. She is a really fabulous person & designer!
