This is stash busting--I have Garnet Heather Telemark which I bought for another project which I no longer want to knit, and also 5 balls of Bayberry leftover from another project (a gift). They’re close enough that I think the color contrast will be subtle. I’ll use the Bayberry for the ribbing at the bottom of the sleeves and body and also for the button band.
I’ll knit the sleeves in the round (up to the armpit shaping).
Sleeve: In Bayberry, CO 23 using tubular cast on in US 5 needle, k 3 rows, then picked up stitches (46 sts total, since I am eliminating the selvedge stitch for seaming the sleeves) and switched to US 3. K 14 rows in k1p1 rib. Changed to Garnet yarn and knit one round across (because of color change, when started pattern with purl stitches, needed a base row of new color).
Changed to US 6 needle and began pattern. k16, then p2.
For increases, k1, M1, patterned to 1 stitch before end, M1, k1.
After 14 rib band rounds, did 113 rounds (knit round, 29 rounds after last increase) then started cap.
Back: Tubular cast on in Bayberry like sleeves. Started armhole shaping after knitting row 73 of stockinette. Started shoulder shaping after row 119.
Left Front: For button band, slipped first stitch on band edge for a neater edge (first stitch on WS). Since button band is in different color and I don’t really like intarsia, I’m going to knit the button band separately from the fronts (as per the pattern) rather than at the same time. Started neck shaping after row 113.
Left button band: 129 rows after pick up extra stitch.
2/15/2014: it’s knitted but I’m waiting for the buttons I ordered to arrive.
2/21/2014: Finished!
Update: This has become, hands down, my favorite sweater this winter. It’s short enough to be flattering to my figure and it’s warm without being too warm. The fabric has nice structure without too much drape, and the silver buttons look really cute.
