I am revising the directions of the Wanda Wallaby, size 2T, to fit my 14 month old grandson. The Berocco yarn knits up at 4 stitches to the inch on my size 5 needles because I am such a loose knitter.
Cast on 80 stitches with my size 4 needles with blue and then knit one round. Switch to gray and knitting K1,P1 for 2”. Switch to size 6 needles and Knit one round. Increase 12 stitches in the next round and knit until the piece is 8” from the cast on edge.
At 8” long, knit one more round. Next round, knit 4 stitches, then thread those 4 and the previous 2 onto scrap yarn. Knit around back to next marker. K4, place those 4 and previous 2 on scrap yarn. Knit around the front to the right underarm.
Pick up blue skein and using size 4, 42” needles, Cast on 30 stitches. Knit one round and change to gray. K1, P1 for 1.5”, 8 rows. Knit one round. Next round Increase by 4 stitches. Next row increase by 4 more stitches. Knit until the sleeve is a total of 8” long. Knit 1 more round. Place 6 stitches on scrap yarn. The sleeve is 8” in diameter and 8” long. Cut yarn and leave a long tail for sewing up the underarms later. Repeat for 2nd sleeve.
Take the body of the sweater and knit across the sleeve stitches, then along the back of the sweater across the left arm sleeve stitches and then across the front. Mark the beginning of the round underneath the right arm stitches with a unique marker and knit another round, placing markers before and after the sleeves join the body of the sweater. There will be 1 unique marker and 3 regular markers. Then knit 2 more rounds. 40 stitches on the front and back, 32 stitches on each sleeve.
Decrease Yoke section:
Round one: k1, SSK, knit to within 3 stitches of next marker, k2tog, k1, SM, K1, SSK, repeat from three times more for 8 stitches decreased in one round.
Round two: Knit
Repeat Rounds one and two 3 times more.
Continue same for 9 more rounds, decreasing every other round. However, on the decrease rounds, purl the center 10 stitches on the front of the sweater for the placket. End on a decrease round.
