The first blanket I have ever made for myself and by far the BIGGEST thing I have ever made. It is now full-sized blanket worthy of being a light bedspread.
Obviously I changed the pattern quite a bit. I did three chevrons in the beginning instead of two. Then I added two side ripples and one across the top and bottom, and then another two ripples on the sides and it ends with two ripples on the top and bottom. It is REALLY big.
The colorwork is also tweaked. The yellow yarn is left over from another project so I wanted to use it up, but I don’t want to buy anymore. So, I thought I would offset it a little by adding some lavender and black, which I think makes it a lot better. But I’m not really working with any specific pattern in my head, just doing whatever color I think should be next, trying to use as much yellow as possible, without running out too early. The pattern on the sides is yellow-purple-yellow-black and the top and bottom are black-purple-yellow. Changing up the third color worked out well. I had just enough yellow and didn’t have to buy any more or make the color pattern look bad!
I love my new blanket and I love that it is finally finished! But, lessons learned: For a project as big as a full-sized bed I would go with a smaller pattern. When the blanket isn’t laid out on the floor the effect of the colorwork is diminished. So, I definitely recommend the original size of this blanket, and if you’re looking to do something bigger (like mine) I would do a smaller or more simple pattern (such as squares or a regular granny ripple) :)
