9-7-13: After a trip to the Alaska State Fair, it’s back with a ribbon. Interesting to note: the fair judges or volunteers, displayed this with the collar inside out. The design is on the inside so it will show when the collar is folded over.

I knit the collar with a 3.75 mm needle instead of the 4 mm that I used on the border ribbing because I didn’t have a 16 inch needle in the correct size. That made the collar snugger than the pattern called for, but DH likes it anyway since it keeps the cold out better. He’s wearing it as a coat outdoors right now to “test” it for warmth. (It’s -7 C, snowing and slightly breezy.)
If I knew for sure that he wanted to wear the collar folded over, I would have knit a purl row to make the collar fold over crisper, but I wasn’t sure. He might want to wear it pulled up on very cold days.
The collar of this is interesting. After knitting it halfway up, the sweater is turned inside out to knit the second half of the collar which has a pattern to it. Then when the collar is worn turned down, the pattern is right side out. When I looked at other knitters’ Aranmor projects, I didn’t notice that so it was a surprise.

This is the vintage Bainin and I much prefer the new Bainin from the VY website, but I’m trying to use my stash yarn.
