I did a long tail cast on and followed the pattern as written for the toddler size. After 1 3/4 inches I did the purl turn row and then another 1 3/4 inches and then folded and picked up the edge.
I knit for 7 inches and then bound off using the 3 needle bind off with the right sides together.
The finished brim was about 18 inches.
