Update 7/14/15: My mother-in-law was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and was hospitalized on Sunday. She lives 4 hours away from us. My husband is on the way down to see her and is bringing Bea with him for something for mom to cuddle. I hope it gives her comfort and, when she looks at the heart, remembers that we all love her.
7/26/15: I received a wonderful response from ICU & rehab/nursing home staff as well as patient families regarding Bea that I plan to make a bunch of monsters for the nursing home and either knit/crochet/sew hearts on each one as my DGD fills each monster with love, hugs, cuddles and kisses. (I forgot to take a photo of that.) The lapghans will still go to the VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

-2 Petunia the Patio monster in Plymouth Encore in natural/neutral color #240 & one in One Pound in off white with multicolor stash for arms & legs..
(http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/petunia-the-patio...). Petunia didn’t come out very good - my preference is to pick up stitches from the body and work outward for the arms & legs but her arms came out backwards & one leg is longer than the other. I will probably try making another & get it better. Also I forgot to put her eyes on before sewing the body up so I had to paint them on & I tried a different shape for her mouth which doesn’t look so good, even for a monster. :(
