Plan:
Sweater Wizard 3 to layout basic pattern, PC Stitch to layout initials & sweater cartoon from “Knitting Ganseys” pg 107 to coordinate details & following ‘recipe’ from the book. Channel Island Cast on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c16EVivdO4c
Garter stitch welt knit in 1 strip but straight rather than in the round. Stockinette to 3” below armhole then start gusset & The Lizard Lattice pattern (from Cornish Guernseys & Knit-frocks by Mary Wright) for upper chest/top of sleeve & a shaped rolled neck.
3/12/14: Cast on using Channel Island CO - similar to long tail.
3/13/14: Finished welt & increase row.
3/14/14: Finished first 16 rows with initials. Color is more beige/natural/oatmeal, not gray.
3/19/14: Finished 49 rounds.
3/30/14: Completed round 110 which should be beginning of gusset & definition ridge but I need to wait until I can measure against him to confirm this.
Don’t like the fit. Will frog & restart this.
Overthinking this because my gauge isn’t consistent & is different comparing the washed/blocked & just knitted piece. I think I will go with the blocked gauge & base everything on stitch/row count instead of getting crazy with the different measurements.
7/16/14: Redesigned initials smaller & added year below; went over gauge again & calculated the average, redid general layout in SW & using “Knitting Ganseys” as primary guide.
7/18/14: Welts done & joined using 2-stitch overlap as per “Knitting Ganseys” pg 23 & started year/initials.
7/22/14: Finished year/initials, completed round 63.
8/4/14: Back almost finished. Pics updated.
8/13/14: Front finished. Note to self: **
- don’t bind off sts for neck back & front (not stretchy enough)
** - need to undo bindoff before picking up for neck finishing.
8/14/14: 3-needle bind-off on the right side of shoulders. Picked up for 1st sleeve & worked 2 rounds.
8/16/14: finished 34 rounds of 1st sleeve.
9/7/14: 1st sleeve done & undid front & back neck bindoff and put neck stitches on a lifeline.
9/16/14: Pattern section of 2nd sleeve finished.
9/27/14: 2nd sleeve complete.
9/28/14: knitting done!!! Weaving in ends, will make a paper template prior to wash/block to determine accuracy of gauge swatch.
9/29/14: On the blocking board - measured out perfectly according to the SW pattern measurements. I am still thinking that the armhole should be a little smaller and the length a little longer but I will wait until I see it on him - giving it to him for his birthday which is just before Rhinebeck. (just in time to get more yarn for the next sweater :)!!
10/16/14: It Fits!! He got it yesterday for his birthday and said it fits “perfectly”. Of course I really need to see it to determine the accuracy of his statement.
7/30/2015: on reviewing the photos I think that starting the sleeve gusset about 3” higher up would make it fit better. The body & overall sleeve lengths are good and the neck circumference seems to be just snug enough but the armholes are way too huge.
5/6/2019: since this did not fit & I remade this (successfully), I am going to frog this one so I can reuse the yarn.
8/22/23: I never frogged this but since it fit me, I am going to keep it and I will wear it.
