I used the Pi dishtowel pattern as written but used #6 needles (Thank you Shannon) but I wanted a charted pattern and something a little smaller that could be used as pot protectors & potholders.
Used PC Stitch 10 to chart out Shannon’s pattern first using purl stitch every row for the Pi symbol & less knit background to make it smaller. Worked 1 of this pattern & realized that the straight leg portion of the Pi rippled like ribbing so I modified the chart back to Shannon’s concept of garter stitch for the Pi symbol which, after knitting up another (the turquoise one), looked much better & the size was right.
Next step was to double the yarn for a thicker potholder, however when these were knitted up they were bigger than I wanted so I went back to the chart & only left 1 row between the seed stitch border & the Pi symbol. I also went down to a #3 needle to get a tighter stitch & smaller finished piece.

2nd I purled every row of the Pi
3rd both are the same but different colors; knitted from PC Stitch chart using less knit around the Pi symbol & tighter stitches.
4th & 5th pics are with yarn doubled, first with #6 needle & then using #3.
6th pic are all before blocking.
