Notes

First 6 pics are the finished product; next 8 were the first “draft” that got frogged.
Pattern calls for #3-7 needles for a gauge of 4 - 4.8 sts/inch. I am using #9. My gauge is ~4.25 sts/inch.
10/18/14: This vest is going very quickly. I have been working on this in the car or while watching TV. Started the top of the second/left front in the car today on the way to Rhinebeck. Have about 7 rows left before the front sections are complete.
10/19/14: Realized this morning that I picked up all across the 2 front bottoms to start the front tops instead of leaving the extra stitches for the underarm/side section. Ripped the front tops out to redo though this seems to be knitting up quickly so I don’t expect it to take long to redo the fronts and move along to the back. Done and started the back before going to sleep.
10/22/14: Back bottom done, picked up/CO stitches for back top.
10/28/14: All panels done, did 3 st i-cord around 1 arm hole & pinned on Flatty. The entire vest is very big and the back neck is way too low. I need to think about how to gain a better fit…
Compared it to the “Striped Modular Vest” in Creative Knitting and better understood the sizing, etc. My entire vest is too big, partly because I used #9 needles. As a result the knitted fabric is also too stretchy. I am going to frog this & re-attempt it using #7 and check measurements of the 1st front before I make an ass out of myself again by just continuing blindly along. I may also omit the provisional COs just to make everything a little neater and less confusing for me while working each section. I should have also continued up the back to complete the back rectangle.

11/7/14: Restarted on #7’s, rather than using provisional CO, I will just pu&k.
11/9/14: 1st front bottom done & 2nd cast on.
11/18/14: Both bottom fronts done and 3/4 of the bottom back.
11/23/14: Bottom fronts & back done, 1 top front done and 1/2 of the second. This is going much faster the second time around and fitting better with the #7 needles.
11/25/14: The center back fits across my high hip but is loose across the center of my back so I will only pick up 58 stitches evenly across instead of 68 for the back top & leave 10 ridges on either side of the pick up for the underarm.
11/28/14: All pieces done. Since we were away for the holiday I laid the pieces out in my lap to seam together and got both the front pieces sewn to back inside-out. Need to rip out all 4 seams when I get home and redo them.
12/21/14: All pieces reseamed via crochet slip stitch. Using the Coral Fest (darker) I crochet slip stitched all around the edges & in process of finishing with 3-stitch applied i-cord. Just need to finish armholes, wash, block & hopefully have it dry & ready for Christmas.

1/8/2022: This vest has been sitting in a bag in my knitting room closet for several years now waiting for pockets. I finally took it out this morning. I plan on picking up stitches from the bottom fronts, knit garter stitch in the lighter Salmon color, decreasing the top edges along the pinned lines and finish with the same i-cord in the darker Coral Fest color.
Using #7/4.5mm crochet hook, picked up 25 stitches at the bottom front immediately above the bottom i-cord, knit 30 rows in garter stitch, then knit to row 35 with 3 sts of short rows over the mitered stitches on the front. Changed to darker “Coral Fest” yarn & did a 4-stitch i-cord over the top edge of the pocket (including the 3 short row stitches). Sewed up both sides of the pockets and done!! Much easier than I anticipated!
