Notes

I’m a firm believer that every pattern has some problems (not every pattern is perfect). I liked the Alligator Pattern that this designer created but I was not impressed with this written pattern. I would highly discourage anyone from purchasing this pattern unless you know how to rewrite/fix patterns with problems. I used a size E/4 -3.50 hook and the sharks main body came out huge (do not believe the picture that the designer used.

Below I’ve listed the problems and some of the fixes I did to make this pattern work for me. I hope this helps anyone who has purchased this pattern. :)

The Problems:

  • Instead of chaining 4 in the beginning I just made a Magic ring and crochet 6 sc into it.
  • The sizing of the fins made no sense. So for the top fin and the side fins I did not stop at Rd. 21 @ 42 sc I continued the pattern by continuing till I had 60sc. Below is the fin pattern written out.

Continuing with the fins :
Rd. 21- 42 sc
Rd. 22. -2 sc in next sc, sc in next 13 sc
Rd. 23. - 45sc
Rd. 24. - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 14 sc
Rd. 25. – 48 sc
Rd. 26 - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 15 sc
Rd. 27. – 51sc
Rd. 28 - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 16 sc
Rd. 29. – 54 sc
Rd. 30. - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 17 sc
Rd. 31 – 57 sc
Rd. 32 - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 18 sc
Rd. 33. – 60 sc

  • For the tail I made it larger as well so that it could accommodate the sharks size. Rd. 15 – 27sc Rd. 16 - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc Rd. 17 – 30sc Rd. 18 - 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc Rd. 19 – 33 sc Rd. 20- 27 – 33 sc Then I would finish that off above and repeat Rd 1-27 for the second fin. Then I combined both fins and only did 2 extra then I weaved in the tail to the body.

The teeth for this shark looked so terrible I ended up doing up a picot stitch by only chaining 2 then slip stitching into the 2nd chain from hook then slip stitching into the same main chain. Mainly I just “winged” the teeth and used my best judgement.

If I was not making this shark for a high school student’s graduation gift (her high school mascot is a great write and teal was her school color. Hence the tongue which is blue.)I would have stopped and tried again later. But I was determined to get this finish :)

I hope my notes help anyone who attempts to create this shark. Cheers.
